  Summing Up and Moving Ahead

To review, your CLIP's major tasks about data collection are to:

  • identify the sources of data
  • provide a safe environment for data providers
  • choose methods for data collection
  • set up data collection
  • ensure that data collection is aligned with the Eight Guiding Principles

This module was intended to help you move from a preliminary inquiry plan to a detailed plan for data collection, as well as a deeper understanding of data collection as you work through the inquiry process.

Reflect on your data collection plan in relation to the decisions you made in Module 3. Consider what adjustments you have made or you need to make in the position or focus of your inquiry based on what you have learned about data collection.

The next module (Module 5) focuses on making meaning of your data and taking action based on your analysis of the data. As you work through that module and gain a deeper understanding of your inquiry, revisit your data collection plan and consider what adjustments might be needed.

Module 6 (about the CLIP Facilitator's role and responsibilities) contains some general decision-making tools that may be of assistance as a CLIP jointly makes decisions about any of these phases of the inquiry.
