Tips for Analyzing Quantitative Data

Here are tips regarding analysis of quantitative data:

  • You don't need to be an expert in statistics to do this work. Call on colleagues who are familiar with statistics to help you. Use this as a way to meet people in other departments.
  • Use descriptive statistics to classify and summarize numerical data .
  • Use inferential statistics if you have collected data from only a sample of the relevant population and you need to make inferences about the population based on what you learned from the sample.
  • Pay attention to whether you gathered data from a sample of the population of interest to you or the whole population.
  • Check on campus for people and offices that can help you use electronic means to analyze your data.
