Jane Lister Reis

Jane Lister Reis is the founder/director of a Seattle-based non-profit organization, A Center for Transformative Learning.  For the past 30 years, A Center for Transformative Learning (ACTL) has provided quiet and dialogic spaces for people to investigate aspects of reflective practice (such as stillness, alignment, flow) that serve as windows to understand and experience more clearly the dynamic, inter-related relationship between formlessness and form, intentionality and creation, aliveness (life force) and healthy, living organisms (families, communities, organizations).

Questions explored include:

  • Could we more easily create a more sustainable world if we regularly sought stillness and intentionally aligned with our internal sense of well-being?
  • Could nature and the organic theory of living systems provide us with simple yet profound models of interconnected patterns and internal harmony that if understood would allow us to live more creatively and intentionally in the world?
  • Would bringing those two things together -- the formless and form -- and reflecting on their inter-relationship allow us to create new sustainable possibilities?

Since 1997 Jane has also been an adjunct faculty member in communications at North Seattle Community College where she has taught in interdisciplinary, team taught learning communities.

Jane received her undergraduate degree in English from New York University and her master's degree from Seattle Pacific University where she received an interdisciplinary degree in psychology/counseling and world religions.

Jane and her husband Don have lived in the same Seattle neighborhood for over 30 years and have helped create a sustainable community of neighbors, family and friends.
