What Principles Guide the Operation of a CLIP?

CLIPs are structured around Eight Guiding Principles. Each college designs its own structures based on these principles. Colleges share their approaches so they can learn from each other. The eight guiding principles are:

  1. Conduct inquiry that enhances student learning and success.
  2. Ask questions that matter.
  3. Create a safe, hospitable, engaging environment.
  4. Encourage and appreciate each person’s unique contribution.
  5. Build relationships that rejuvenate learning and practice.
  6. Create authentic, open-minded dialogue that brings out diverse perspectives.
  7. Engage in individual and collective reflection.
  8. Generate sustained, inquiry-based action.
